| ...We'll Probably Regret It...
I'm proposing a bike trip next summer. A number of weekends spread from the spring to the fall. 184.5 miles from Cumberland to Georgetown on the C&O canal towpath. I'm thinking mainly dads and kids who can pedal their own bikes for multiple miles. Plenty of stops for splashing in the river, exploring, and having fun. Not a race. Not an endurance event. Just something interesting to do from Spring to early Fall so the kids can see stuff.
I'm thinking some, if not all, of the weekends will begin Friday afternoon or evening. Some of the things in the further extremities of the path (Cumberland for instance) might require us to go up Friday night so we can leave early Saturday morning. Seems like some of the closer access points might allow us to actually do some biking Friday afternoon/evening. I don't know, I thought this thing up 48 hours ago, haven't really gotten into it yet, feedback would be helpful.
The number of weekends and when they are is less important than the setting out and doing it I think. We we make only five miles one weekend, well, so be it. Despite the surprising lack of confidence in the ability of daughters hinted at (if not outright stated) in the emails I've recieved on the subject thus far (and don't worry, I'm saving all those emails so the girls all have something to give their analysts later) I think if presented with this challenge, and not forced to do more than they want, they'll rise to the occasion. If it takes more than one season, so be it...I don't think anyone is in any real hurry on this!
If you're interested, drop a line.
